This issue of a lengthy autobiography “A Finlander grows up in Proctor” presents the first part of Wayne A. Sarcka’s recollections of his immigration, and future life as an American.
Born in Finland in1880, these memories were written at age 76 as a Christmas gift to his daughter Anne. It provides a detailed and fascinating account of his coming to America; a name change from Vaino Albinius Saarinen to Wayne Anthony Sarcka; coming of age, and
his successful adult career.
The cover picture identifies the original Sarka clan. Included are additional photos of Mr. Sarcka’s work, at an early age, at the marble works; the schoolhouse where
he completed eight grade in 1903; and portraits of Mr. Sarcka and and his wife Elizabeth Man Sarcka in maturity.
